I took my Compass boosters to our local fire station today to have them checked by a CPS Tech (see thread on "Booster Opinions Wanted" in the Car-seat Forum). Anyway, he was *very* impressed with how well our four seats are installed-- he asked who installed them and I was so proud to say, "me."
He did tighten up the RF Scenera and Snugride base. He had just been through a 40-hour training class because he's the main CPS Tech at this station. The other firemen have recently attended 3-hour refresher courses, too. They seem to know their stuff (before we'd even gone to the car, he looked at my 3-y.o. and said that he shouldn't be in a booster), and they recommend extended rear-facing. He said they do seat checks at least every day, sometimes 5-6 in a day. Yay! :cool!:
(And the other fireman gave my two DS a tour of the firetrucks!)
Now for the different type of accident - I was in a stroller vs. bike wreck yesterday. I was walking with our dbl. running stroller through the local college campus, and a student came FLYING around a blind curve on his bike (after ignoring a stop sign) and saw us--he locked up his brakes which sent him airborne over my stroller and he basically landed on my friend's running stroller behind us. His bike hit my front wheel and I was knocked backwards; fortunately the kids (four of them!) were completely uninjured (protected well by the stroller frame since the seats are slung down inside the frame in running strollers). I've got bruises on my shins from the stroller hitting me and my legs are scraped from the curb and ground. I'm just so thankful that the kids weren't hurt. I'm always very cautious when I'm walking with the running stroller, but I sure didn't see THAT coming. Yikes.
