Covers and padding, generally. They're the same seat, structurally.

They are different covers with different levels of padding. The IIHS is seeing some sort of difference in fit with the different covers and the 6 y/o dummy.

Having said that, I've never heard a CPST say "Oh, wow, I got one of those Cover XYZ turboboosters today, I can't stand it! Why didn't they get cover ABC?". In real world situations the turbobooster, in all of its cover variations, seems to fit most kids in most vehicles very well  .

If you ordered the $22 one at sears, then you will be getting a backless. (It was wrongly pictured and described on the website.)

I *think* the one that hit the best best was a newer pattern... if it was... I'm wondering if it was a manual change that made it to best bets. They said something about other seats getting to the best bets based on manual changes... mind you, I have no real evidence of this... completely making this up... but it could be a reason for the different rating.

The other thing I thought, was what if the arm rest position was in different positions in the seats they tested... that can completely change the position of the belt based on the size of the child... just another thought.
