I was leaving Meijer today and was stopped at a light, I looked over at the car next to me and there was a baby strapped in a snugride, forward facing and not seatbelted in. If you are not going to use the seat properly, why put them in a seat at all. I am surprised she didn't see me leaning forward to really look at what I was looking at. I just don't get it.
While I agree it's an horrible offense, I have to say that a baby in a bucket is safer than a baby bouncing around a car.
A midwife friend of mine recently told me two stories of babies who were born at the birth center where she works.
One died when it was in a carrier style seat that was buckled in properly, but she wasn't harness properly. She was ejected from the car and her head was crushed.
The next was straped into the carrier properly, but the carseat wasn't installed well. The seat and baby were ejected as a unit and skidded upsidedown some incredible distance from the accident. The baby was fine (with the exception of scratches to the face)
I know it's just anecdotal, but it's something.
