3 across not allowed in Aveo

We have a 2006 Chevy Aveo5 (hatchback). Anyone know why the owners manual says:
If you use a child restraint in the center rear seating position, the safety belts and the the child restraint LATCH anchors for the rear outside seating positions will not be accessible.
Therefore, you will not be able to secure child restraints or have passengers ride in the rear outside seating positions.

If you use two child restraints in the rear outside seating positions, the safety belt for the center rear seat position will not be accessible.
Therefore, you will not be able to secure a child restraint or have a passenger ride in the center rear seating position.

Just wondering if anyone has any insight. Or a way to contact GM, like engineers not dealers.

Basically they are saying that the child restraint will be too wide and will cover the buckles for the adjacent seat. If you have narrow seats that actually fit, they fit. Just make sure they are independently tight by installing the center seat, installing the outboard seats, then removing the center seat to make sure the outboard seats are still tight.

Either that, or the belts/anchors overlap each other to an extreme degree.

I did a nb TB/FF MA/nb TB before I knew to read the manual. Everything fit and no buckles were covered (althought the center buckle got un-buckled frequently) I've never used the LATCH in the car so I'm not sure if it would overlap the center buckles.
And the manual doesn't say anything about 3 adult passengers using the 3 l/s belts.
Cool, its been bugging me since I got my radians. I kept thinking, they are narrow, they fit, why not.

Not according to stock photos in this particular vehicle, but a good point nonetheless.

Can we get a statement not to use the center and driver's side seats simultaneously in the manual of the Rav4? :wishful thinking:
