Antibiotics+4 MO Breastfed baby+5 hours in the car=HELP!

ooooh help! DD has the runs due to her antibiotics. We use cloth diapers and never ever have had a blow out until today and now I'm worried that during our trip this weekend which includes 5 hours EACH way (not including the driving around town stuff) that we may have an issue.

Would it be ok if I made a VERY thin PUL (same stuff that the cloth diaper covers are made out of ) and flannel "pad" with a crotch buckle hole to lay in her seat so if she DOES have a blow out that it doesn't get all over her brand new coccoro? It would be thinner than those "piddle pads" they sell in the store...

That's a decision you have to make, but I'm generally okay with a very thin lining layer as long as it doesn't interfere with harness/buckles. Remember that you should be stopping every few hours anyway with young kids-- it's not good for them to sit more than 2 hours MAXIMUM in the same position (or you either!) So I'd go ahead and change the baby every time everyone gets out for a stretch (and bathroom break if needed.)

I mean, if you're REALLY REALLY worried, you could buy some disposables just for the driving around on vacation.

I would not go with disposables. They tend to blow out MUCH more than cloth. I have personal experience with both and would chose cloth every time with runny poo.

Oh we do stop every 2 hours. I would regardless. She needs to nurse and everyone pottied and stretched.

Disposables are even worse for blowouts though, or I'd consider it LOL!
Once the coccoro gets here tonight I was going to measure it and make a pad specifically for that seat-very thin and won't touch the buckles at all.

My dd had to have some testing back in the spring that required her to do a "clean out". The drive there was 6 hours also. We ended up doing a disposable chux pad under her. It really doesn't interfere at all, and saves the seat for sure.

I've heard of people doing disposable UNDER cloth for blowouts that are really severe. Hopefully you'll find a solution that works!

Thanks :) I may just put a flat diaper under her bum to catch any leakage and put her in our most very very bulletproof double gusset cloth diapers (rumparooz). I only have 6 of them though so they'll be for in the car only LOL!

When I've been traveling and worried about that, I've used a disposable with a cover (Thirsties in our case because I like the gussets) and haven't had any issues. It might get on the cover, but the cover keeps it off the seat. Good luck!

I agree with this. The only sposies that work for DFS (G-J on Elecare, so runny poop at 17 months old every poop) are Huggies Little Movers, as they have elastic in the back that keep the poop from running up his back. But a good fitted with a PUL cover would do so very much better!
