Car seat that lies flat?

I'm pretty sure it is an overseas car seat because the person talking about it referred to it as "up to 9 kg"

But what do we know about these?

Probably a car bed. In the US it's a special needs seat. I think there are other countries that use them regularly, not only for special needs.

Yes, when we lived in Italy we frequently saw infant seats that were flat. I am fairly certain there was a popular one made by Chicco as well as Peg Perego.

Are they safe? would it be worth it to import one for an infant that screamed all the time in the car? (That is what it is being recommended for)

No, definitely not.

There is a huge safety drop in a flat car seat. A lot more of the force of the impact is directed into the harness and therefore onto the occupant, rather than through the shell of the seat.

"Screaming a lot" is absolutely not an indication for a serious down grade in safety.

When my DD came home from the hospital- due to respirtory issues in an infant seat- she came home in a car bed. It was HORRIBLE. I hated the instal- I hated the seat- she hated the seat... I was so glad to get rid of it a few weeks after she came home (we only left the house to take her to dr appts)...
