styrofoam bitten and getting rid of the bucket

Well, DS has taken two or three bites out of each styrofoam block on the outside curve of the seat part of his diplomat. Do I have to replace these? We are currently in an '00 Grand cherokee w/o latch , I was thinking we would pass the diplomat down to DD and get DS a new seat with a little more room. Any suggestions?
Measurements:
DS: 30 lbs 35"
DD: 21 lbs 27.5"

How old are the kids?

I'd probably replace the foam, and pin the cover back somehow so he can't eat it. And yes, even without knowing his age, the Diplomat doesn't get kids to the ideal age rear facing, nor a mature age forward facing, so I'd pass it down and get something bigger. Either to rear face longer if he's under 3 or 4, or to forward face longer if he's older (in which case he's TINY).

Oh yes, DS is 2.5 (3 in January) And DD is 10 mo and will be 1 in October. He bit it when I brought it in to wash the cover and the shell

I'm sending out feelers to see how DH feels about the radian .. it is quite pricey though. He was hoping for $150 range
