Question Safety 1st air protect lx-fits 2003 Mits Galant?

Based on reviews, I initially thought I'd get the Radian XT because of the high shell. However, we couldn't get it to fit in our car rear facing. My second choice is the safety 1st air protect lx, but the TRU I've checked don't have the seat for me to try in the car so I'm going to have to order it online. Before I do that I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it's likely to fit in our 2003 Galant? Both my husband and I are tall (5'11" and 6'1") so can't move the front seats very far forward. I'd really like to have the baby in the center of the car if at all possible.

thanks for your help

How old is your child? If they are sitting up unassisted, you can install the seat more upright than the ~45 degrees needed for a newborn. However, as you may have discovered the Radian doesn't always install more upright. The Complete Air does, though in most vehicles. If your baby is older, I wouldn't hesitate to order it.

He's due next month, just figured that I should get this sorted out sooner rather than later. I have a bucket loaned to me from a friend but expect him to grow out of it fairly quickly (he's 90% for height). And the loaner bucket, while safe and not expired, isn't very cushy so I'd like to have him in a more comfortable seat before we take a big trip in the spring (he'll be 4-5months).

thanks for your response

It sounds like he'll be tall, but ultrasounds are notoriously inaccurate, so I'd wait until he's born to say how tall he is. What's also nearly more important are his proportions. If he's long torsoed, even if he's short, he'll outgrow seats faster than if he's short torsoed and tall.

The CA LX doesn't fit newborns well, so make sure that he's at or above the bottom harness position before you move him to it.

Just know you cannot use LATCH in the middle of your car.

Q on latch. Our car has 3 bolts in the back. I thought that was the latch system? Our car is from the US and we imported it if that makes a difference in exact type of latch system.
I'm planning on buying the air protect when I see it on sale since it one f the tallest rf that's sold in Canada, unless there's likely a better one coming out in the next 3-4 months?

Sorry should have looked before I asked a q. I thought top tether and latch were the same thing. I think I'd rather use seatbelts in the middle than latch on either side-assuming the seat will fit right with seatbelts.

You cannot use the lower anchors in the middle, so it doesn't matter. Mitsubishi doesn't allow it.

The top tether is for forward facing.

LATCH=Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren. So LATCH is the entire system. Your middle seat doesn't have LATCH, it just has a top tether.

Bolts in the back window? Those are part of the LATCH system. They are the tethers (the T in LATCH). Those are used for forward facing seats only. What Wendy is referring to is the lower anchors (the L & A in LATCH). You'll find those by sticking your hand in the crease between the back and bottom seat cushions in the backseat. There will be two metal loop-like bars that child restraints can be clipped onto instead of installing with the seatbelt. Many vehicles including Mitsubishis have these anchors for the outboard positions only and if one wants to install a child restraint in the middle, you must use the seatbelt. The LATCH (or Universal Anchorage System as we call it in Canada) is a convenience feature, not a safety one. Installing with the seatbelt. Is just as safe as installing with UAS/LATCH.
