Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 recline

I went out with my friend's nephews recently and the older boy's EB3in1 is forward facing at what appears to be a 45 degree angle (the younger boy's is at a MUCH more reasonable angle). Is the seat ALLOWED to be that reclined in the forward facing position? I didn't get a good look at it, but I think there were different recline positions in notches of some kind on the base and I think it was on the third, if that helps. I'm not really all that familiar with the seat, it just looked SO reclined!

Good to know. I'll mention something to my friend to mention to his sister, then. The seats are both in tightly with latch, top tethered and the harnesses are tight, chest clips in the right places. The recline just blew my mind, though. I mean, I can't imagine having a nearly-four year old that reclined unless they had special needs or low tone or something. And this kid certainly doesn't. He spent the whole time in the car craning his head forward to see what was going on around him.

Sounds like someone didn't take the seat out of newborn recline mode when they put it in FFing. It's actually a very upright seat for FFing.
If it has a base, there is a full upright and mildly reclined mode for FFing, and a full recline mode for RFing. IF there is no base, it has a little boot/leg thing you fold up or down, to create a fully reclined or fully upright mode.

Here's the deal...the manual actually states that you MAY use the recline mode for FFing..but ONLY if it is needed to achieve a tight install, like if your car seats really, really slope. But most parents don't really understand what that means, and they use the recline mode for FFing. I've even seen it used for booster mode, which is...*beyond description*.
Anyway no, put it upright.

They actually have the seat somewhat reclined to accommodate the EB, from what I could tell. I'm not really familiar with their vehicle, but it looked to me like the other child's seat was more upright and I KNOW the other child's carseat was WAY more upright. The two seats are IDENTICAL (same cover, same everything--didn't see DOM so they could be a couple years apart, I guess) and the older boy's seat was a good 3 inches 'shorter' than the younger boy's seat, just from the sheer amount of recline!
