RF recline angle

RF recline angle

My 6 month old can sit up on his own. I remember seeing somewhere that a child could be raised above the 45 degree mark after they can sit up. I still have my rear facing seats at 45 degrees. Should I change this? What is safer?

Re: RF recline angle

Generally, once an infant has enough neck strength to support their head, it is OK to recline them a bit less. Less reclined is safer from a crash standpoint. Before they can support their heads on their own, the risk of an airway obstruction is more important and that is why the 45 degree angle is necessary for newborns.

Somewhere around 30 degrees seems to be a nice compromise for comfort with older babies, but anything from zero to 45 is acceptable.
