Graco expiration

So, from what I understand, Graco seats expire in December six years after manufacture no matter what month they were made. This is what I don't get: Mom A buys a seat made in January of 2010. Her seat then expires in December of 2016. Mom B buys a seat with a manufacture date of December of 2010. Her seat would then also expire in December of 2016. So, why does Mom A get almost one more full year of use than Mom B?

Because Graco says it's ok. My guess is most seats won't spontaneously combust the day after expriation, but there's some wiggle room. Maybe a year or two. Graco is saying they're comfortable with that for their seats. Other companies are not.
