Making $ as a tech

I know that most techs do their work on a volunteer basis, other than the cops/firefighters who do it as part of their jobs. But have any techs made a career out of CPS? And if so, how?

I want to, and will, become certified and I will volunteer. But my p/t job is most likely coming to an end within the next month and it would be really nice to be able to generate some income from something I love.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Very few. You likely will not have support from your local techs if you live in a state which does not charge hundreds of dollars for the training.

I was able to bill medical insurance for office visits to our Women's Clinic + homevisits for pregnant patients on bedrest when offering seatchecks as an extra part of my birthing education.

You would need liability insurance.

I work at a hospital as part of the education team. We visit every family before they are discharged with their newborn and check their seat for recalls, expirations, and make adjustments to fit the baby to the seat. We will also go to the car if they family wants us to, so we can check the base. It is not my full time job right now, but I hope to make it so someday. I volunteer A LOT at checks also and make up events with my current job (as a mental health case manager for children in residential placement centers around Detroit), just so I can hold a car seat check or safety fair with a car seat table :) We just had a huge event on MOnday where we checked 130 seats and gave 67 away for free.
It is difficult to find CPS paid positions because there are not a lot of hospitals that will fund that kind of a program.
Good Luck. I figure one day I will be doing it full time when the opportunity arrises, until then I just fill my brain with tons of CPS information and attend every event I can.

Our hospital gets seats only as needed through the program I volunteer at (in a church). Social services refers families to us through the hospital, etc. The only $ involved is the donations we must use to buy the seats through discount providors (we're waiting for grant approval).
