Help interpreting dynamic tests

Help interpreting dynamic results please

Help interpreting these results please?

I'm looking at them here.

Lower numbers for head excursion and g-force are better, right?

I'm looking at the 6 year old dummies untethered because that's what applies to me.

The Nauti has the highest g's of the seats I'm looking at by almost 20.

And I don't really notice the RN's head excursion numbers being that much better than the MA/BLVD. Only 50 mm better. And the Nauti's are 100 more. The FR85 is actually the lowest.

Am I reading it wrong?

Nm. I should be looking at weighted tests, huh?

What's the point of doing them if the dummies aren't weighted? :scratcheshead:

The dummies are weighted. There's two ways they use the 6yo dummy, without additional weights (53 pounds) and with additional weights (a vest, I believe) that make it 63 pounds.

You won't see numbers for the 6yoW dummy because they don't look for numbers with that dummy. When testing with that dummy, the only thing that has to happen is the dummy has to stay more or less in the seat, and the seat has to stay more or less intact. No dummies flying across the room, no seats breaking in half.

That's not the Frontier 85, that's the Frontier (80).

In all categories, lower numbers are considered better. Without a tether, the head excursion limit is 813 mm. With, it's 720.

I'm not seeing the Nautilus's HE numbers being substantially higher. Nautilus is 759, Radian 719/737, Marathon 729, Boulevard 808.

Keep in mind the cutoffs when you're looking at the numbers. The cutoff for chest Gs is 60. All of the seats were comfortably under that limit. The highest of the ones you listed is the Nautilus (less than 6 Gs higher than the Radian), but it's still 8% under the limit. It's not squeaking by.

Gotcha.

So the GN performs better with more weight? Weird.

Depends on what you call better. When comparing rows of data (different dummies), make sure the installation method is the same. Otherwise you are comparing apples and oranges.

Unless one row of data has lower numbers in every single category, I don't think we can really say that one seat (or installation method, or weight, whatever variable you're using) is better than another. If you are in a crash, and your child breaks their femur because of high knee excursion, you're going to wish you had a seat that performed better in that area. If you are in a crash, and your child has a chest injury, you're going to wish you had a seat that performed better on the chest Gs.
