Maxi Cosi Mico base fail

This is Chrissy's base. I am sure she will come by and answer questions and fill in details. She had stated the the recline foot gave way and so the tight install went to loose, very loose. This happened twice to her, by just setting the bucket in the base.

Don't mind the jammies. I guess that is what I where when Chrissy comes over.

Here is me installing it. Also watch the shoulder belt.

We did try the new base, and foot stayed put. The shoulder belt is an issue still.

That's pretty scary.

Have you called the manufacturer (Dorel?) or NHTSA?

Makes me wonder what could fail under crash forces.

I'm sorry, but all I could think of when watching the first video was "My goodness her b00bs are huge! I've even met her and I don't remember those knockers!"

Then I realized you had your knees in your nightgown.

OMG, I'm so glad I wasn't the one that had to say that! I was like...WOW, those have got to give that girl some back troubles. I was even trying to imagine how you could get around them with your arms to install the seat in the first place:whistle:.

But back to the base, I'm glad they are taking it back and keeping it for testing.

Exactly! I kept thinking 'man those are pointy... and lopsided! :ROTFLMAO:

Glad you got your replacement base.

I am sure you would all rather so jammie covered knees than what is under the jammies. She has the worn me she is coming, so I actually put clothes on. ;)

Did you try installing the base by tightening the belt first and then locking the seatbelt? That's how I always do it. Locking the belt is the last step. Seems like it might take a little bit of the frustration of the locked belt slipping out while trying to tighten it.

It's still a crappy design, though.

I do that with the marathon, but did not try with this one. Does make a lot of sense.

With that oddly open belt path, I'm surprised they don't allow the shoulder portion of the seatbelt to rest on the vehicle seat (i.e. completely out of the belt path).

How would that work? I'm not getting a mental picture.

It does help to tighten and lock.

If you leave the belt out of the path, it gets all wonky because the tension on the shoulder belt pushes the base out on one side. The belt path looks like this

( 0~~~0 ) the 0s are the the edge of the belt path and the () are these hook-shaped wings that stick out to the sides of the seat. If you leave the shoulder belt out, it wraps like this

. /
{( 0~~~0 )

around the wing (which makes it really hard to tighten because the latchplate ends up against the shell), across the front corner of the base, and up between the vehicle seat and the front of the base.

BTW, I've had problems with the foot collapsing too on older models. I use a noodle instead. I had a June manufacture one come through my fitting station two weekends ago and it was a lot better.

Yeah, I was hoping. But the directions on the base said differently.

OMG I thought those were your hooters too! I was like "homegirl is using her boobs as an arm rest and put it on video for us to see...doesn't she know that is horribly unattractive?" Hahaha I was SO relieved when I saw it was your knees.:p
