Large RSTV

Piper is 46.75 pounds (as of this morning at the doc's) with an 18" torso. She's complaining that her small RSTV (old style) is tight in the crotch. I would much rather travel with an RSTV than a booster, but she's under the weight limit for the large. She's got a small frame, the old style small didn't fit her until about 38 pounds. But will a large one fit around her small torso if I buy a new large? I've heard that the old style might fit her, but that's moot right now.

Thanks!

From what I've read, the crotch strap is optional. If that's true, then can you just not use that part, would the small still fit her then?

It states in the manual that the crotch strap is to be done up, just as the chest straps are to be done up. It doesn't say optional, or that it's more or less important than the chest straps.

I can't see it working very well without the crotch strap.
