Which would you use Booster or Harness

DD turned 5 in June 45 to 50lbs. We have done booster rides for one long trip and she did fine. We have done many 1 hr trips one way and done fine. Now we are doing around town booster mainly in our Truck but Dh says the car will be fixed and we will start driving that more since gas is better 95 honda civic since this is an old car would you harness here instead of a booster? I have GN and it will be in the middle with top tether she has a least 15 to 20 lbs and 1 to 2 inchs left in torso height. The outboard belts are ELR. When using the booster I do still like to lock the belt.
TIA

Harness without a doubt. Not just because it's an older car but because it's safer for her all around. I'd only use the booster as a back up seat for small trips in the car she's in the least.

There is no reason to think the child is safer in the harness  I'd do whichever one suits the situation better.

For young 5yos I do usually prefer harnesses, but since you state that she can reliably use a booster properly, there is no evidence that either choice provides a safety advantage.

:yeahthat:
Personally, if she still fits in the GN I would keep her in it until it's outgrown. Might as well get as much use out of the GN as possible. :) I'd do whatever works best for your family though.

Since she rides well in the booster I would say booster but I am confused as to why you have to lock the belt when using the booster. So, as apposed to locking the belt with the booster I would suggest using the Nauti in stead.

The '95 Civic has a lap-only belt in the center rear spot, right? I'd use the Nautilus in the middle in harnessed mode in that case so she can ride in the middle instead of outboard in a booster for the added safety of the middle position, particularly if you feel you need to lock the belt when she's boostered. :twocents:

Jeanum's was my thought, as well- all else being equal, we have no evidence that a properly used harness is safer than a properly used booster seat (or that a booster is safer than a harness), but in this case all else is not equal. Center rear position gives a statistical advantage, especially without side impact airbags to potentially offset that advantage.

Personally, if a child is ffing I like to see them in a booster as soon as they can sit properly. *I* personally side with the Swedes in this one. But it's totally a parental decision. There is no proof one is safer.

I would prefer to keep a child in the middle seat if ff. So if you have a lap only belt there, I'd use the harnessed seat in the vehicle you drive most often and the booster as a back-up.

well humm still not sure what to do as dh has to get he ac fixed before we even think about driving the car.
If its just me and dd then we use the truck if its all of us depending on where we are going probely going with the car so both will be equal
truck is 2003 F150
car 95 honda civic
2 seats I have now
GN
Vivo ( I do want to get another with a more current dom if they all are not gone yet)
Where ever the GN is going its staying there since its heavy The booster well I bring it in the house every day so its always on hand.

I just like locking the belt on the booster still its for my peace of mind today I did let her ride with it unlocked and it was fine.

My thoughts were the GN in the car since it only fits in the middle and its eaiser to get her in and out of.

I'm just the opposite. Younger kids tend to do things like fall asleep, lean over to look out the window, reach down for something, etc. Because a harnessed seats doesn't allow this range of movement, it makes it a safer choice. Heck, my daughter is almost 11 and there are still times when I have to get on to her. Better yet, there are times I lean over to pick something up and I'm 36.

So, my vote is for the harness.

Which is why I said "when they can sit properly" and by that I mean they are mature enough tonot reach for things and such. My ds1 was fine at 4 in a booster. He would sleep, but he'd lean back to do it and keep the belt in proper position.
