Came across this situation recently. Friends son, 5yo 39lbs in an evenflo big kid. She wanted him back in a harness. While waiting for payday, would you leave him in the booster or put him in a borrowed (mine) MA? Booster fit looked decent on pics. But I can't remember if its approved under 40lbs.

Big Kid highback is 30#. If it fits okay and he can use it properly, it's really a personal choice to borrow a harnessed seat or keep him in a booster -- both are very safe options.

If it has the back on it is rated for 30 lbs and up. I would probably let them borrow the MA, just to be sure they are both ok with reharnessing. Although at 5yo, if the child does well in a booster, I'd probably just leave well enough alone. :twocents:

I agree, I'd have no problem with him in a booster. I'd only loan a harness seat if he wasn't sitting in it properly or the fit was poor- that is also the only situation where I would recommend a harness seat too.

Thanks everyone. I suggested the booster, but then I worried that it was a 40lb seat. Mom wanted him back in a harnessed seat after their grandfather worked a bad accident( sheriffs deputy) where of the 4 kids in seats, the one in the booster was thrown from the vehicle. Now we all know how unlikely it was that the child was properly buckled but she felt more comfortable with it. She ended up getting him a Nauti the next day and moved his 7-8yo sister back into a HBB. I wish I could have convinced her to turn her 32lb 2.5 yo back RF but she wouldnt go for that.
