independent installs

I know I've seen it before, but how do you check for each seat to be independently tight/correct on a 3 across?

Install the center seat with less than one inch of movement. Install the two outboard seats. Go ahead and get them as tight as you can. Take out the center seat, and check if the outboard seats have less than an inch of movement.

I just did one yesterday. The outboard seats were rock-solid with the center seat in place, but loosened when I took the center seat out. They were still less than an inch of movement each, but they weren't rock solid any more. I need to be very careful with this arrangement, to be sure each seat is tight. They were leaning on each other some.

then do you leave the outside seats installed and re-install the middle? then how do you know the middle is tight again?

You can mark the belt in some way (a pencil or piece of chalk), or if you're using a locking clip then the belt is already set at the same length.
