Coccoro and the tips of the ears?

I was just thinking about the Coccoro's alternative seat belt routing where the shoulder belt is routed around the back of the seat. In another thread awhile back we were discussing how that routing helps to reduce downward rotation and that it is this reduced downward rotation enabled by that seat belt routing (or a support leg etc.) that allows some seats in Europe to be used rear facing to the tips of the ears rather than an inch below the shell.

I know the seatbelt routing is option on the Coccoro so I am not talking about the seats actual limits. I know we must follow its stated limits. But theoretically, do you think the seat could be used until the tips of the ears are even with the shell? Because that would be awesome! The Coccoro could really gain some rear facing time and keep it's tiny shell, if that were the case.

That's just a little dream I had. :)

IIRC the Coccoro manual doesn't say anything about the child's head in relation to the shell. I was hopeful that might mean there was no restriction, but I asked the rep about it when I got the seat and she said to follow the one-inch rule.

Don't think I'm not tempted though.

Would there be enough harness to get a child to that height? Their shoulders would be pretty far above the top slot (which I'm pretty sure is ok rear facing, though I'd have to double check the manual).

Nice to know that I'm not the only one who has thought about this. :) For their seats with this seatbelt wrap-around in Europe Britax says head even with the top of the shell. Even that would give another inch of height, which could be a lot for some kids.

The Hi-Way I have has the same shell as the Roundabout, but you can use it to the tips of the ears RF even though the shoulders go far above the top slots, so I imagine in theory that wouldn't be an issue.

I just love the idea of being able to use the Coccoro to the tips of the ears. I think that would make ERF so much more feasible for people with very small cars, people using taxis exclusively (NYC etc.) and so on.
