Dodge Caravan yr models to avoid?

I've been asking a bunch of questions lately. We anticipate a new to us vehicle in the next two months. Buying used, I just want to get a good value and am not stuck on a particular vehicle. I REALLY like the Mazda 5, but I think the 08's are out of our price range, but I want rear air living in Louisiana and Texas.

So that leaves me with the Mazda MPV (someone kindly told me what models to stay away from in my other thread) and the Dodge Caravan.

Any bum year models? We are looking for a van 2002 or newer, 80K miles or less for $7-8K. I have seen some 02 Caravans with 70-75K miles for $6500-6900.

I think, historically, the Dodge minivans (Caravan and Grand Caravan) have had a lot of the same issues. Brakes and transmission.

I don't have any experience with the "older" years, but I had a 2006 GC, which needed the brakes replaced at 20K miles and then developed some sort of transmission leak at 30K miles. We traded it in at 32K miles. I have a 2009 GC now, with 10K miles on it and we're having the brakes replaced Monday. The power sliding doors needs to be lubricated, too. Despite the "issues", the GC is by far my favorite minivan on the market and I'll be getting another one when the time comes.

Hope that helps a little!
