Coccoro install issues?

Can someone give me the low down on any possible install issues? I seem to recall (and read on a few threads) that there have been issues with the seat flipping up once installed.

My sis bought one and I am going to help her install. It's my first CCO install!:)

The plan is to use LATCH.

Thoughts or recommendations?

Well, any seat will flip if you shove it upward, generally, unless it's tethered. The seat will stay tight and do its job when it's installed properly.

With LATCH it's generally easy, unless you get the LATCH buckle caught right at the edge of the beltpath. I find the easiest way to install it is to use the seatbelt the European way, but it's annoying for daily use. LATCH in my mom's Honda Civic (2005) was a breeze, LATCH in my husband's Audi A4 (2004) was a hassle but doable.

Wendy, I am aware that seats without a rf tether can flip up. :) From what I read in a few posts there was a problem with the rf cocorro flipping up if touched, bumped, etc. and then no longer being installed correctly. Not just flipping up like a normal rf seat. It seemed the solution was to put pool noodles somewhere (other than the seat bite)to prevent the flipping? I have not done anything more than just look at this seat at a baby store so am not at all familiar with it. I read back to some threads in 09 where this seemed to be a semi-common issue.

I also read that there would be modifications made on the 2010 model. I'm wondering if that is the model that is out now or not.

I haven't had a problem with the CCO flipping and not staying as it should. And Piper was in and out of Laine's seat on the planes quite a bit. It tipped a lot, and I just shoved it back into position. In my cars I haven't had a problem at all. Most of what I've heard said that it may tip, but you just shove it back and it's fine. It's still tight.

The 2010s were supposed to be out in June, but last we heard it's now December. They'll have a rear facing tether and a three pound minimum limit.

In my experience, yes, it often SEEMS like it will tilt and loosen if you sneeze on it. In reality though, it doesn't.

For example, if I go out to my car and intentionally bump the top of the seat, it will jiggle. If I bump it just a bit harder, it might loosen. It would seem like that would happen inadvertently all the time, but it never has.

In fact, until my DH checked for tightness at the top of the seat a while back, I never knew how "easy" it was, and we had been using the seat for a year at that point.

I think people flip out (so to speak) about it unnecessarily sometimes.

Um, I had a CCO when they first came out and after a month of near daily installations, I came to the conclusion it was completely incompatible with my car.

I decided to "give it another go" months later (after becoming certified) and voilà, it works!:eek::p

Good luck!
