Travel Tips with the Britax Frontier? GoGo Kidz?

Last time we traveled we used our two Britax Boulevards with the GoGo Kidz which allows us to use the carseat as a stroller, and either gate-check the car-seat (to ensure it arrives) or use the car seats on the plane.

Now we have a Frontier and it does not work well with the older GoGo Kidz we have (apparently there is a new ratcheting strap that might be better?)

Questions:

1) Will the Frontier be destroyed if we curbside check it, or do we need to find a way to get it to the gate to gate check it? it is just so darn heavy!

2) Has anyone tried checking their frontier inside the box it shipped in, or is that too big? (we are flying United and Southwest)

3) How does the new ratcheting strap work with the Frontier??

Thanks in advance for any tips or ideas. We are two adults and two kids not sitting together on the plane. Have mercy.

What did you do with the Boulevards? Even gate checked I wouldn't trust them to work in a collision.

I wouldn't trust any checking. It's FAA approved with the harness. I'd use it on board.

Normally they allow baby products to be checked (PNP, for instance), so that would be the only safe alternative if you're not taking it on board.

No idea.

They'll reseat you so that you're at least two and two. They wouldn't have strangers sit next to someone else's kids. We've had it in the past where the three of us were split, and they were able to get it so one of us was with her. If the gate agent can't do anything, tell the flight attendant when you get on board. They'll figure something out.
