radian retroactive weight change - tech what do you do?

so if you had a 35lb radian come into your checking station with in the dates that it has been included in the retroactive 40lb change and the parents child was 37lbs what would you do?

Would you go against the stickers and manual and go ahead and install it rearfacing even though you have nothing in writing to back up your decision?

or would you stick with the written information install the seat FF and tell the parent about the retroactive change and let them make their own decision. obviously show them how to install it correctly rearfacing as well?

or would you just stick with the written information.

If a Radian came into my check, first I would wet my pants.

If I didn't know what seat was coming in ahead of time (I usually don't), I wouldn't be prepared with the SKJP release. I don't have it printed out as part of my tech kit. If the parents knew about it already, I would have no problem signing off on RFing a 35-40 pounder. If the parents didn't already know about it, since I have nothing in writing, I probably wouldn't say anything unless the child was under two years old. (As a general rule, I don't usually push RFing a child over age 2 if the child is already FFing.) If the child was under two, I would do my best to educate, and try to at least come up with an internet connection so that I could show the parents the SKJP statement.

In the end, it's always the parent's decision. Always. Even if the parent wants to do something illegal (FF at 11 months or something), it's their decision. Of course, I can also make the decision to say "what you want to do is illegal and I won't help you do it."

Explain to the parents -- show them if possible -- and let them make the decision.
