and HOLY dust!

My guess is that, that silver plate needs to be UNDER the plastic tabs, correct?

Exact same thing happened to me. The screw on the top of the mechanism loosened enough to let the plate slide out. Unscrew the screw the rest of the way, pop the plate back in and tighten up the screw.

I would have panicked a lot more except that the adjuster still held the strap tight and the harness was not disturbed at all.

yeah, thats what i figured. I'm on hold with graco, asking their 'official' what to do, we shall see.

They're official stance? Replace the seat.

and thank goodness it happened yesterday, the seat is a year old FRIDAY!

They want you to replace the seat? Or are they going to replace it? That's NUTS if they are making a seat that will break within a year. I'm sorry but most people cannot afford $130 every single year to replace a seat.

they offered to. they said it's not a replaceable part, and they didn't want me unscrewing, to replace it. Fine with me.

I'll get a pre-paid shipping label in the mail, and they'll inspect it, and give me a new seat.

It's really an insanely easy fix. I wouldn't have dreamed of asking for replacement once I saw the problem, although until I realized what happened I was thinking I was going to have to!

I do think it's probably they want to re-evaluate the design of. Either make the plastic 'shelf' a little deeper, or screw it at the top or bottom. But it's not a safety hazard.

I'm sure it is an easy fix. The lady said she's never heard of it before, and wanted to see it. They already have holes in the dang thing, why not screw it in?

Right, i feel safe still using the seat, but uh, it's broke. I'm not going to take the liability of unscrewing a vital part of the seat, to re-arrange it. sorry. I'm not. I'm glad i called them.

Hmmm...makes me want to go out and check my seat. So, are they sending you a new seat, and then you send the old one back to them? Or are they making you ship out the old seat first before sending you a new one?

sending me a label, then sending me a new seat.

She said she'd send me out a new seat FIRST, only if i didn't have a seat to use in the mean time, and i do.
