I just got an e-mail with this video of why not to ride in the box of a pick up truck.

It appears that the passengers in the truck aren't buckled in either:thumbsdown:

The back of the pickup truck is good for sitting in only for drive in movies.
Once a truck carrying pigs was rear-ended and pigs were running everywhere on the roads. Alot of people were late for school that day as everyone help round up the pigs (small breed)

ETA:
I had sat on plenty of pickups box/back but those were on private dirt roads and we had to hold on tight to the rails.

I am surprised so many people walked away... and that person that the pick up flipped over but seemingly didn't touch them- talk about miracle. I didn't have my speakers on, was the taping planned? Seemed like they were taping a whole lot of nothing before the truck came making me think this was purposeful

That's what I was thinking. They were taping the speeding truck of people on purpose. But I highly doubt they flipped it on purpose. Who would agree to be in the truck if that was the case, knowing you had a good chance of dying? IDK. That almost made me sick.:(

Just because they walked away does not mean they are not hurt. There have been cases where all looked good, but later the person died or was paralyzed.

My husband did many a call of kids/teens/young people that had been thrown out of the beds of pickups going 50+, even up to 70+, when he was a medic in WV. It was never pretty, and most people in the bed died, or had catastrophic injuries.

I was driving behind a truck that had about four kids in the back of it last Friday. They looked to be between the ages of 13-17. I wanted to get out from behind them because I did not want to be behind that potential accident!

Oh I know, I was just surprised that anyone actually got up on their own volition less than a minute after that. I guess adreniline/shock really can do that to you though. Just thinking that when I or my kids trip and fall (so we really aren't "hurt" in the grand scheme of things) we more often then not end up laying there sprawled on the ground for a little bit just to get our bearings or dare I say milk the situation for all its worth :p No doubt they have broken somethings though, if not more serious issues like major internal bleeding!

I don't know .... if this was real, it is horrible. But the whole thing, for whatever reason, seems staged. The person filming was filming for no apparent reason, but happened to focus in on the truck before there was any reason to. Then the trucked swerved out of control for no apparent reason right as it came to the center of the camera's focus .... all seems too coincidental. Mybe it was for some type of movie and they were stunt people.

I'm surprised its still legal in some states. CA, for example, you can ride in the bed if you are using a restraint meeting federal standards. And I think NV, you have to be over 18 or there has to be a shell on the bed.

I think the video is staged, the people thrown are out of the camera's view when they get up, like they switched the dummies out for really people.

My friend told me it was legal here (WA) to ride in the back of a pickup if all the seats inside are occupied. I have no idea if it's true because I have no intention of ever riding back there or being in the car when someone else is.

That being said, I HAVE sat in the back of a moving pickup, on the private property of the Girl Scout camp I work at when there are no kids in camp when we are simply moving our luggage. The speed limit is 5, but I doubt we even got up to that.
