Swaddling in a car seat

Not that I am aware of. I just put C in and then surrounded him with rolled blankets so he felt swaddled.

Is there a safe way to do this?

the Kiddopottamus swaddleme (I think that's what it's called) works. They also have one specifically for the car seat. It's a very thin piece that goes behind the child, there is a hole for the crotch buckle. You buckle them up and then wrap the wings around them.

As long as it fits with the car seat (it might not work with some kids and some seats) I've seen that product used in a way I'd be okay with. :)

That sure would have been nifty when mine was little. She "required" swaddling until she was over 6months old. I def will buy a few of these now to future babies lol

if I had someone make me something similar that was made out of a receiving blanket(or similar material), would that be just as safe?

As long as it fit like those pictures-- big huge hole for the crotch buckle that lines up without bending things out of shape, thin fabric, doesn't squish harness straps into an unnatural position that makes tightening difficult. :)

Do they make them in cotton? I worry fleece would get hot.

Yes, Kiddopotamus (now Summer Infant) makes them in fleece, cotton jersey, and flannel. I could be missing some, but those I am sure of. They have them in lots of colors and prints too. They come in 2 sizes. The large goes to 22 lbs. I love them. I've used them in car seats for my DD and she loved it too. They are life, and sleep, savers for sure!
