I want to order one SO bad. All I have in regards to babywearing is a single pouch that has thus far served me well. He's getting a bit big for it, though. I can still hip carry him with minimal discomfort, but it's getting hard to stuff him in it!
Charlie wasn't worn as a baby. His health prevented it (it would have been extremely painful for him. There were times when we couldn't even hold him period) so I never did it. Occasionally I'd put him in the pouch, but not often. He was a stroller baby. I do have a really nice stroller, though, that he loves.
We go out a lot, to Busch Gardens or the zoo or Sea World. He normally rides in his stroller with no complaints. I have to leave him in the stroller most of the time if it's very sunny out (we try to do our outings in the evening or on overcast days). However, he LOVES to be carried as well. This weekend at Busch Gardens he wanted to be carried pretty much the whole way.
AJ just bought him (me) a new stroller a few months ago, so I'm having a hard time justifying another baby transport object. It's a pretty cushy stroller, and the ONLY one he liked. It's also gigantic.
I'd love to have a really nice carrier for our long outings, in addition to a stroller. I mostly want to carry him on my back and hip. We live in Florida, and it's in the 80s even now, so I don't want something too too hot. I *think* he'll take to it, but I'm not positive.
I know I can order it from most places with a 30, 60, or 90 day trial and 100% money back if I don't like it. But it IS a hundred bucks. I have an almost $50 credit at DiaperCo, and I doubt I'll be needing diapers again soon (the ones I bought were too big, so I sent the unwashed ones back and just decided to use his large FB during the day and deal with some droop. So now I don't *need* diapers anymore if we're using the large FB we had previously used only for overnights). So that would be fifty bucks that i really don't have to spend, but then I forfeit the ability to return it if we don't like it.
What would you do? Should I just order it from DiaperCo, or is it not worth the risk? I know I'm gonna get a lashing for ordering it period, but I can spin it in my favor (actually, she told me to go ahead and order it, but she thinks it's a waste of money. Oh well, grudging permission is still permission!) I'm used to wanting things I don't need and finding a way to get her to side with me.
Also, the heat and color... I was going to order the light blue one. But... do you think the khaki one will be cooler? Or what about the organic denim? I'm not crazy about the denim one by looks, but do you think it will be cooler than cotton canvas?
And anything else I should consider? The Sutemi Pack looks interesting, but I don't think I'm crazy about it crossing in the front. What I REALLY want is something that I can comfortably carry him on my hip or back for longish (45 minutes or so) at a time (he'll want to walk in between, I'm sure) and also be comfortable for him to sleep in just in case. It definitely needs to eb easy to get him in and out of by myself. The front carry is nice to have, but not that imperative. I thought of a MT, and I know it would be more versatile, but I'm worried it would hurt him. The ties putting pressure on him anywhere will probably bruise him, especially his thighs.
Anyone done a hip carry in an Ergo? How did it go?
Charlie is 19 months and 30 pounds.
