And uh... is the EPS foam supposed to be taped onto the shell on both sides by some brown packing tape?

Ok, so I searched the forum and apparently this is normal. Weird.

I was told by a Chicco cust service rep that the entire lining comes off. When you get to the adjustment button, you grab the fabric on the edge closest to the baby, and gently lift up and forward and it is supposed to release the fabric. Haven't tried it yet, but am curious to know if it will work. I tried once before to take it off to clean but got "stuck" at that button.

It is fairly easy to take off. Just a bit of elastic around the handle, then sliding it over the belt guides, and then ease it around the harness adjuster thing. I've washed my cover twice I think. I have a front loader and used a gentle cycle. I think I put it in the dryer on Extra Low for a while, and then let it air dry over a chair.

I have a front loader and have washed mine several times. I think I just do a normal cycle, not even gentle. I dry it too (on medium) and have never had a problem. I wash all my carseat covers like this, including the "hand wash only" ones!
