Cleaning a True Fit

Kaden majorly power puked in the car today.......and being rear facing, it was projectile and got the actual car seat, his TF was covered, it even made it's way down to the seat belt and storage parts for the latch.

I don't deal with puke well. Gross.

Anyhow, I stripped the TF, and washed the straps down with hot soapy water, but there seems to be some puke inbetween the styrofoam and the plastic shell.........any suggestions? Q tips maybe?

I guess I have to hang the cover to dry too, right? I haven't even removed the seat covers yet, I feel sick now, but it could all be in my head. Not sure. It's going to be nice and ripe in there tomorrow........but I'll go take everything out of the car tomorrow, open the windows, strip the radian seeing as the stench will be in it..........

Ugh.

I know - me too. But I never need much excuse.

My sister on the other hand, has a puker. I got her the truefit as it was the easiest to clean. I have no advice other than good luck and do the best you can. Also - if there is still a smell, maybe sprinkle baking soda between the cover and seat once everything is as clean as it's going to get. Over time it will suck the smell out of fabric and layers!

Good luck!

I managed to get it almost spotless........thank goodness.
I'm a little ticked about the cover though, I washed it (twice actually) in warm water and my normal detergent. Hung it to dry. Now the padding inside the material is all bunchy in spots.......not sure why, but I guess once my boy starts sitting in it it will even out......and now it has white fuzzies all over it. Not that it's a huge deal, but come on, after one (ok, 2 consecutive) washes?

At least it's clean again and smelling fresh!

Maybe I am wrong, but aren't you supposed to NOT use any soap on the straps? Doesn't it contribute to breaking down the strap strength?

Gentle dish soap has long been considered acceptable for cleaning straps. Warm water, and just warm water, would be the most ideal but I can imagine that some smells would best be dealt with by using dish soap.

Trust me, soapy water was the only option in this case. And when I said hot soapy water, it wasn't scalding or anything, just hot enough that I could comfortably handle the cloth!
