Spare seat for DCP

DS is starting at a home daycare on Monday. She wont be transporting every day, but she does rarely do errands and occasionally field trips. On her info sheet it says something to the extent of "every child must ride in a car seat according to state laws" but just from speaking with her I got the vibes that she isnt completely car seat savvy.

She wont be leaving the seat in her suv, just installing it as needed. DS will be 4 on the 26th :)eek:) and is almost 40lbs. WWYD? Give her a harnessed seat, teach her to use it, and hope for the best? Give her a booster and do a little booster training with DS?

I'd do the Evenflo Maestro and teach her how to install it. It's pretty easy to install and use.

Is the DCP open to learning how to install seats? Would she do it correctly if you showed her how? If so, I would go with a harnessed seat that's easy to install. If not, I would seriously consider a booster but with the same questions. Is she willing to learn how to use it correctly and do so?

From how you've described your son, I don't think he's ready to booster train and then be left in the car of someone who isn't safety savvy :twocents:

I'd go with the Maestro and make sure to install it myself and make her demonstrate how to secure him in it.

DS is actually very well behaved in the car and always makes sure his chest clip is right, harness tight, etc etc. and did very well in the booster. My preference? Harnessed seat hands down. But its no good if its used incorrectly...

The problem is I wont be able to install the seat because I wont always know when she is taking him in the car. I wish I had a reason to inspect her car to see how her 20 month old DS's seat is installed

I'm no good with words, somebody throw me a sales pitch on how to talk to her about it.
