Boost America

Who else has been around long enough that they remember doing a Boost America event several years ago? I can't remember what year that was, but there were a ton of sponsored checks and booster giveaways that year.

Anyway. I worked a HUGE event in Eastern WA that year, and it was so wicked cool. Tons of tents set up, TONS of volunteers (and free Krispy Kreme donuts!!). We confiscated the biggest pile of seats. There were so many stations set up that there were golf carts to pass out new seats to the tents, and pick up the confiscated seats.

So anyway anyway. I was just thinking how fun it would be to do a huge event like that again. Although this time, I'd wear sunscreen, and avoid the blisters I got on the back of my legs from being in the sun so long that day!

What seat check have you worked that sticks out in your mind?

Ah Boost America! It was before my time, but I was given a lot of the boosters to pass out. My instructor lived in Washington when they did that.

This makes me feel old. Ah, Boost America, the GOOD OL' Days! Remember when we had funding and TONS of boosters to pass out? And all those Britax Laptops for those pesky older vehicles with LBO!

Pass me my cane. I'm about to topple over here.

Um, that was about 9 years ago because I was pg with my now 8 yr old ! We used to super big events like that back then--4 hour events doing over 200 seats--but we do smaller events much more often now, so it's more manageable now. It's . . . commonplace . . . now, which is good and bad. Our community expects us to be there, so we can't get them excited about it anymore :(.

It was before my online/tech experience, but I sure remember all those Right Fits/Ford Sponsorship and "It's for comfort" because they didn't have the 59% safer stat yet.

Yes, my then 7yo went back in a booster because of that program (he had been out of a booster since 5 or so). It was an Evenflo RightFit, tan with green pad.

He is now16, so 9 years ago sounds right.

Huh, I didn't think it was the same summer I had gotten certified, but maybe it was. N was born in 2001, I took the class with him in a sling (in a room full of LEO's nursing a baby - now that was funny!) when he was four months old. I don't remember having to make arrangements for him for that day of the big check, so I was thinking that that check must have been 2002.

I remember it but don't think I did any checks for it. I still have my right fit, using it today in fact! lol

I remember them. Never worked one, but I remember the program.

And I still have a Right Fit as well. Somewhere. I think mom's garage ate it.

Oh lookie - original press release.

And another article. Looking back at the mindset and boosters they used then (Right Fit and Century Breverra Contour Sport)... We've come a long way in the last 10 years.

Sounds about right. I had extra boosters in my basement for quite some time.
