Britax seats and HUGS

why do some have them and some not? It's a safety thing, not a comfort thing, right?

I noticed that the RA50 doesn't have the harness strap pads or the HUGS. It seems it is ok to use other Britax harness strap pads with the RA though . . .

They offer HUGS and strap/belly pad sets on their parts page for RA and RA50. I would say its a "bells and whistles" thing as far as packaging goes.
ETA: the new store they recently set up no longer offers the pads and hugs for RA/RA50

HUGS are not a trim feature; they are there to reduce friction and reduce head excursion in the higher-weight harnessing seats (65 lbs +).

"HUGS are located on the chest area of the harness straps for our higher weight capacity seats such as our 65 pound convertible car seats, our 80 pound Frontier combination Harness-2-Booster seat, and our 80 pound Regent forward-facing only seat."- Britax.com
There you go, RA50 only goes to 50# so not high enough weight to justify it being a standard feature, I guess.
And I know what they are there for, just didn't think about the weight difference between seats being the reason.

I just called Britax about using the shoulder pads on the roundabout the other day. They said it was not crash tested with the shoulder pads so they can't tell me it's okay to use them. :(
