Best seat for airplane travel?

Hi! I am currently shopping for a convertible car seat for my 6 mo old, 18 lb, 28 inch DS. In addition to the other considerations, I would like a seat that is useful for air travel. Regardless of any other factors, which seats are best for plane travel (both RF and FF)? Meaning, the seat fits well in a coach seat both ways, is easy to install with a airplane seat belt, and also has decent RF and FF limits. Thanks so much!--Pamela

What's your budget? Often what a lot of us do is have a primary seat that stays in our cars that's long lasting (something like a Radian or True Fit). Then we have a smaller lightweight seat that we travel with (a Safety 1st Avenue or Cosco Scenera, for instance). Then we don't have to uninstall and reinstall seats when we are leaving or coming home, which is great for those early or late times, and we have a light seat that is smaller and fits more easily on the plane.

I agree with Wendy. The seats that are best in the car often aren't the best for travel because they are often tall, heavy and/or bulky. At your daughter's age/size I think the Combi Coccoro is great for travel, assuming she doesn't still fit in an infant bucket, but it is a very small seat and certainly doesn't have the heighest RF or FF limits. However, those with higher limits like the Safety 1st Avenue and Radian, which are also both recommended for travel for older kids, may be extremely upright (or simply not fit) RF on a plane and at her current age your daughter is still too young to ride FF. If you don't plan on flying with her until she's older though the Sunshine Kids Radian might be worth considering if you only want one seat. It's heavy, but it folds and can be carried on your back for travel.

Thanks for the input. It sounds like it's best not to consider air travel for your main seat. Since a Scenara can be had for about 40 bucks, I'll probably get one of those for travel. Also, less worries about something happening to the seat than if you take your $200 seat!

We have the Uptown which is an older version of the Avenue and it's a great seat for traveling (we fly at least 3 times a year). We also have a Marathon which I like better as an everyday seat, but the Uptown is much easier to travel with and since my kids are smaller they fit in it for about as long as they do the Marathon.

Once a LO grows out of a RF seat you could get something like a travel vest or Safety First GO for a traveling which are very easy to fly with.
