Car seat for truck?

My husband just bought a Sonoma extended cab and it has those flip down seats in the back. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with putting a car seat on them? My son is currently 3 & 35 lbs, so he can use a booster, but it does still have to be the 5-pt harness. Just trying to find something that's small, and not too bulky?

Welcome to C-S.org :)

Just to get the terminology clear, a 'booster' is something that positions the vehicle seatbelt on the child. The seat you're thinking of is a forward-facing harnessed seat or a 'combination seat' (harness-to-booster).

Now that that's cleared up :p, do the vehicle seats face the front or the side of the vehicle?

They face the sides of the truck, they flip down from the side. Yeah I guess I was thinking of those convertible boosters that go from like 35-80 lbs, and still have the 5 pt harness.

Those are combination seats. Convertibles go from rear to forward facing, combinations have a removable harness.

However, none are approved for side facing seats. You'd have to use the passenger seat to transport a child in this car, and it's basically a two seater.

Yep, if your DS rides in this vehicle, he will have to sit in the front. Not only is the seat not approved, but it would most likely put the side of your child's head just inches from the back glass. (I saw a child in just this situation on the road the other day and just the sight of it made me cringe.)

So yeah, the only option in this situation would be to install the seat in the front. :)

Just a side note. We sometimes transport our DS in our Ford Ranger Pickup and we do use the front seat, (not the side flip downs in the back of the cab). Make sure that you put the truck seat in its furthest back position. Also, I don't know if you have this option, but in our truck you can use the vehicle key to turn off the passenger air bag, so we turn it off when out DS is riding in the truck.
