what to say?

I'm sure I'm not the first to ask this question...

My friends went on a road trip last week, and I just learned that they turned their DDs MA to FF before the trip so that she's be 'more comfortable'. She's not even 10 mo!! Over 20 lbs already, but that's beside the point.

Normally I would just come out and say that it's a really bad idea, but we haven't been talking as much lately, so I feel the need to be a little more tactful in my delivery, especially since I turned my DD at 1.5 yo (before I knew the benefits of ERF) so I don't want it to come across like I think it was ok for us but not for them.

I think sharing 'Joel's Journey' with them would be a great idea. It shows why FFing too soon (he was 18 mos IIRC at the time of accident) is so dangerous.

They have other stories on their site, like a 14 month old, 26lb baby who was internally decapitated in a car accident.

When you write to them, just try to relate to them. It helps to say something (even if it isn't entirely true) about how you always thought it was silly to wait till a year of age like it was just some random number, until you found out why you need to keep them rear-facing. Be gentle and non-judgemental. Sometimes they listen, and sometimes they don't no matter how gentle you are.

Good luck.

Did they turn it back? Maybe before the next road trip say something about how dangerous it is.
