My kids ride harnessed in the front seat of dh's truck. It's usually only AJ and only a few times a month though.

1500 is 1/2 ton, 2500 is 3/4ton, and 3500 is one ton for Chev/GMC and Dodges, and for fords F150 1/2 is ton, F250 is 3/4 ton, and F350 is 1 ton. I believe the same numbering system works on large vans too. I think the cabs are fairly standard on all sizes though. They are on the old ones at least. Ranger, S10, and Dakota are 1/4 tons. I'm not sure on the foreign labels though.
My truck's only got the front seat, without passenger air bags, and I wouldn't have a problem installing the seat in the front. Check for tethering locations though. If your doing the seat belt instal, I wouldn't recomend putting the seat all the way back, due to the fact that the seatbelt attachments may be stationary and will be ahead of the seat back. My dads truck is guilty of doing this. As long as the air bag is turned off, it most likely won't be necessary to put the seat all the way back.

Thank you for letting me know how the truck numbering system works and about not moving the seat back too far. I'll be sure to post back about how I installed it. His dad phoned about half an hour ago to say he is on his way up...expects to be here by 3 this afternoon. I have a wedding at 1pm, so I guess Rylan is going to a wedding in the middle of nap time...oh what fun!

The Radian installs great in the back of their 1500, outboard, with LATCH. Be sure to check the tether routing, they do it weird (right to middle, left to middle, middle to left, or something like that.)

wow that is confusing lol! Well I dont know which my granddad has, but its a dodge ram quad something and it has headrests in the back, 1 latch in front and 1 in back, and those top tethers that are fabric loops you run through to the next tether anchor. Sorry couldnt be much more help!

Thanks! Hopefully the manual is in the truck. Guess I'll do a quick search now and see if I can find it online.

Update:

Ended up installing the seat passenger side outboard in the back. Tried the middle position and just could not get it tight. Before he drove away he rechecked and tightened the straps on the trailer he was pulling. So glad that I didn't have to check tightness of that install, lol.
