I think that might be the Kiddy seat. There were rumors that Kiddy plans on developing it for the US market and bringing it here some time next year (though you know how that goes.)

Yes, it's the Kiddy. I got to play with a black one. It's pretty cool. Not great if you don't want your 40# kid in a booster, but I fit in it as a booster quite well- it gets really tall.

That looks really cool! Does anyone have more info? Will it work with just a lap belt?

The rumor was it would be certified for use with a lap belt. Which would make sense since unless they market it as a booster, it has to be able to be installed with LATCH or lap belt only.

Here's a video. It should be able to be used with lap belt only. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-dhlo2wqKY"]YouTube- Kiddy Carseat best safety protection System[/ame]

After reading the instruction manual...nope, no lap belt only. It has to be three point seat belts. But it CAN be used in rear facing seats, like the third seats of station wagons. Here's a link to manual. Scroll down a bit for English. http://www.kiddy.de/content/files/Bedienungsanleitungen-PDF/ba_comfort_pro.pdf Hopefully they will allow lap belt only in US. That would be cool.

And this says there is an importer in the US http://www.kiddy.de/gb/importeure

Maybe I'm completely missing something, but I just don't understand how that would contain a child in the event of a roll over accident.

I personally could not use that seat. It just doesn't sit right with me. I'd prefer some sort of seatbelt over the shoulders. :shrug-shoulders:

NannyMae- that seat actually performs amazingly in all crash tests. It's crazy safe, better than a booster, a FF harness, it's awesome. Just like the laptop was awesome. It is NOT a shield booster in any way which I think is what you're clouding your mind with. A child would not likely be ejected in a rollover. It's possible, but it's highly unlikely. And I'd take that ever so slight (almost non-existent) chance in exchange for the awesome safety it offers all around.

I loved it, though the booster was highly unimpressive and it was HARD all over, even the headwings are hard plastic without even regular foam on them, just the cover. And the shield only goes to 40 pounds. But if they would pad those headwings and make the shield go higher, I'd own one in a heartbeat.

The Kiddy seat is not legal to use in the US currently. They are not on the US market whether there is an importer or not.

You can only use them with 3 point belt in Europe-- but they were planning when asked on developing them for US use. Which means potential for lap belt only use (I believe they replied they were going to develop it for lap belt only use when asked, actually, though I can't remember where I read that.)

Like Splash says, these are incredibly safe. They are safer than a FF 5 point harness. They contain really close to the body and yet don't put a strain on the neck and I would 100% put my own kids in them if I could (and my kids couldn't rear-face.)

I had a great conversation with the Kiddy people at Lifesavers. Right now the seat is certified only to 40 lbs with the shield (and CAN be used with only a lap belt), BUT when I spoke with Jan-Stephan, he told me the reason that limit was so low was because Kiddy is concerned with people using LATCH past the weight limits. When I pointed out that they could always require seatbelt installation past that point, like other seats do, he indicated that allowing lap belt-only use from 40-60 lbs or so may be a very viable possibility.:D

I would LOVE one of these for the rear-facing seats in our Eurovan! And with the shield to 60lbs with lap belt; bring it on Kiddy!
