Another kid weight loss question....

The baby started walking about 3 weeks ago. She weighed almost 23 lbs.
then and now is down to 20 lbs. and a bit.
Is this totally normal??

Katie was always skinny and always super mobile so we never noticed
a change when she started walking.
Allie looks so little and petite now!

Jackson droped five lbs when he started walking. He was a chunk to start out with. Went from 32 lbs to 27 lbs.

I think you generally see it more in chubbier kids. AJ was 25# when he started to walk and afaik lost no weight. Evan was 19# and thankfully lost no weight. I'm in the camp where I think weight loss in kids (in most cases) isn't healthy, but I guess it depends on the child.

It is normal. As long as the kids don't lose too much weight, I don't think doctors worry too much about it. My friend's daughter was 18 pounds when she started walking and dropped to 16 pounds. They were worried about that, because she got so thin. But she gained it back quickly.

HTH.

Ironically, I'm sure that if *I* started crawling, I'd lose weight! That's such a hard way to get around, it's amazing kids trim down when they start walking, lol.

LOL! And Allie crawls around with her feet in the air behind her which I'm sure I could not do for any length of time let alone back and forth from the kitchen to the family room 27 times a day!

Well, I'm glad to hear that this is not unusual....I'll mention it to her doctor next time we're in tho.

Thanks everyone!
