Weight gain after illness

Charlie has lost almost 4 pounds... he's down to 27 and change, from just over 31. He's soooo skinny :(
Will he put this weight back on quickly? He's still not eating much, and the drugs he is on cause major GI upsets, so it's likely to get worse before it gets better. I just don't know if weight lost to illness tends to go back on faster than normal weight gain.
I had to send back some of the diapers I ordered him, because they were too big. He might have grown back into them when he wasn't so skinny, but I didn't want to chance it.
But, he can safely ride in his SS1 again! If he's not too tall by now... (I'm sure he is. Besides, I don't even know where it is!)

You did want him to be able to stay RFing longer, right ;-)

Really, I'm sorry that he's probably not feeling well, but while I don't have much experience with baby weight loss, I'll bet he'll be back to normal soon!

Jackson had a virus three weeks ago. He started at 34 lbs. Then he lost down to 30 lbs. After he fully got over the virus he started eating everything in sight. When we went to the doc Wednesday, he weighted 33 lbs 10 oz. Almost back to his original weight in three weeks.

In my experience, McKenzie gained weight back quickly after a nasty stomach virus. Like 2 or 3 weeks to regain 5 lbs.

Evan generally gains lost weight back fairly quickly, at least when he was on his formula. The most he ever lost though was a pound. I hope he feels better soon!

My experience is as soon as the illness is really gone they go back up rather quickly. Of course all kids are different, but I figure once he gets his appetite back he will go back up.
I on the other hand have put on weight during my illness lol! and am trying to go down.

My DD had her tonsils out last November. After the surgery, she lost 8 lbs ( and she was super skinny to begin with. She got down to 52 lbs (she's 9) and her ribs were showing, and her pants were falling off. The Dr. suggested that we give her Pedia Sure (nasty!), milkshakes and Carnation Breakfast drink every time she was thirsty. She also suggested high protein foods... meat, eggs, peanut butter/soy nut butter, dairy - (I forgot what Charlie is allergic to - so forgive me if I list any 'off-limit' foods....)
It has been a long recovery, and she still has a pound to go before she's back to her pre-surgery weight. But at least she LOOKS better again and her pants fit her better.

Have you met with a nutritionist? Maybe your doctor could refer you to one who could recommend some good food choices for Charlie.

I pray that poor Charlie gains quickly!

good to know they get it back fast. Jack was 19 pounds at a year and over the weekend he had the stomach bug and when he went to the doctor he is still 19 pounds he is now 15 months. He had to of lost weight some but i would think he would be a little more

It might come back fast, it might not. Hayley went from 52 pounds to 48 pounds in December during a respiratory illness, stayed at 48 pounds, then recently when we all had the stomach virus she dropped down to 46 pounds, and I think she's still there. :(
