Holy cow at the padding -- is this right?

A good friend of mine gave me her snugride to use for DD in DH's car. It expires next year. She took good care of it and it was used with her son and recently with her daughter. I do know that she has not been in any accidents.

Ok - so I took the cover off to wash and wow there is a lot of padding under there! I have never seen a snugride with this much padding - I think it's actually affecting how DD fits.

Is this a gracopedic thing? The cover is black on the sides and black/cream checks down the middle.

Really? I'm surprised. This lady is so nervous about everything (she's talked to me several times about expiration, erf'ng, eh'ng) - I'm surprised she would do that.

Really? I had a SnugRide with DS that had the GracoPedic foam and it was only in the seating area. I wish I had a pic...

I checked a gracopedic infant seat a couple of weeks ago and it had padding all the way up the seat, and MAN was it cushy! I kept commenting on it. Seriously, it gave the TFP with the infant padding and headrest a run for its money.

My sister had a snugride with padding like that. It came that way, not added after-market. Not all Snugrides have them, just the $$$ ones. :)

I just peeked at the '05 gracopedic foam Metropolitan SR I have in the basement and it has all that [yellow] cushy foam in it too. I remember when I first got it the foam was a nice clean shade of ivory. It's discoloured to the yellow just like in the pic posted.

On a sidenote, I keep going back and forth about using it again for this peanut (because I hate infant seats and don't really want to buy yet another one) but can't get past the fact that my SR is pre EPS foam. Hmmmm. I believe it expires about 4mos after baby is born. Which works for me.

it looks like it was cut perfectly for the seat. I don't think she would've added it without if looking way off.

Looks like the Gracopedic stuff. Different trim levels of the seat have different amounts of foam.
