Consignment store carseats

I work at a kids consignment shop that sells used car seats. I've talked to the owners a couple of times about it, but they just blow it off. Their thoughts are that used car seats are better than no car seat at all. Any suggestions of other ways to change their minds?

Does she consider her consignment store, its products, and its customers to be so low-end that she is the last-ditch possibility for those customers' children to be secured in a car seat? I would bet she would rather not believe her stock is that shabby and cheap, and I'll bet her customers are not that desperate- instead, by being a trusted source for gently used items for children, she is giving her customers a message that purchasing used, unknown history car seats is acceptable, so they do- she could be an agent for change if she wanted to.

On the other hand, I recently looked at a checklist a consignment store in Oregon has for people wanting to consign their car seats and it's pretty good (as these things go)- at the very least it gives some really good ideas about what is and isn't OK to keep using. You might show it to the owners and suggest they require it from the sources of the car seats they probably want to keep carrying.

That looks like an AWESOME store! We are extremely particular about what we accept to sell. We only sell name brand clothing and very pristine toys and baby gear. That's why I don't understand why they accept car seats. I will definitely print up that checklist and see what they think. My issue is... how many parents are going to be honest about some of the questions. I trust most of our consignors, but there's always those few that you question their judgement.

If I bought a seat from you, and it failed, guess who I'm going to come back to to sue? Most places in NC refused to sell them for liability reasons.

As for better with an expired seat than nothing....
