Honda Odyssey EX-L or Touring 2005-2009

We are looking at buying a second vehicle, used/new to us. I pretty much have my heart set on an Odyssey EX-L or Touring (but have also considered the Chrysler Town & Country). I'm wondering what the biggest differences are between the years we are considering as far as safety, convenience and car seat installation. Mostly considering 2006-2009 but not opposed to other model years if the car is a good price and in great condition.

If it matters, I have 2 children - DS1 is 4.5 y/o, 39", 37 lbs FF in an XT. DS2 is 14 m/o, no idea on height, 23 lbs, RF in a MA.

We live in Canada but are looking at importing US models as well.

TIA for any insight. Also, for those of you that have purchased used vehicles (both privately and via a dealer), I'm wondering how flexible the prices generally are?

Don't go for a 2005 if you can help it. The single tether anchor in the 3rd row middle goes across the middle of the trunk. Had I known this single fact I would not have considered a 2005, it limits some of the seat placement for forward facing. I can't speak to the differences between the EX-L and Touring because I have an EX. Love my van, though, and the only thing I would change is that I would get an 06 or later.

I bought it used in 2007 from a dealership and as long as you stand firm, having done your research on prices, and be prepared to start heading for the door when they don't go down low enough, you'll get your price. With my van, they started out wanting 20-something, I told them I wouldn't pay more than 15 because of the mileage (my low-ball offer). I ended up with it for 17 out the door, including tax, tag, title. At one point I had my hand on the door to leave, and the "manager" called me back over. No trade involvement, we sold our truck ourselves.

I'll second the idea of not getting a 2005. They added the other anchors back in in following years. Also, when I was researching, I remember reading something about the touring models using a different type of never flat tire that didn't wear well and was costly to replace.

I highly suggest you go to www.odyclub.com and read up on the years/trim packages you are interested in and the problems people had with them.

Oooh thanks for that link  I'll check it out!

Yeah I recall a weird glitch on the 2005's, that was why I wasn't seriously looking at any from that year. More than 1 tether position is imperitive for us as DS1 is 4 y/o and most of his friends are in 5 pt harnesses which, by law in Canada, must be tethered. That will definitely impact our choice. I expect DS2 will be RF until DS1 is ready for a booster so it's not a concern for our immediate family, I don't like the option being taken away.
