Installation issues in GMC Jimmy

I have issues installing a RF safety 1st intera(base off) in my mom's 01 GMC Jimmy. I can get it in with a pool noddle at a FULL 45* recline, but DS is 18mths and isn't happy that way.
This is my problem...

Is there anyway to safely remove that little pain in the butt?????

The Issue is that the button keeps the belt from tightening as much as I need it to, so regardless of having a noddle there or not, I can't get the belt tight enough.

Can you use a rolled towel to install or a smaller pool noodle or none at all? Either one will make the seat a bit more upright and may make that button pass into the belt path. Is it hitting on the plastic of the seat? I can usually bounce my seats to get it out of the way.

I would be leary of removing the button on my own, but I think it can be done. Just use a butter knife to get some leverage on the button and it should pop off. I'd be worried about tearing the seatbelt if it came off at the wrong angle or something. You can call GMC to check on this too.

Just make sure you are installing seats in the outboard positions. I believe Jimmy's do not allow center install of child seats.

I guess I should add some more details to my post...

Yup thats correct for the 2001
FF I don't have any problems with any seats, but RF I can only get the 45*

I tried with the base on and its not an acceptable install.
