Need some booster help, please

Hello. I looked through some of the previous posts and could not find an answer, so I thought I'd try here.

My DH just traded in his minivan for a 2010 Hyundai Accent. My DS was in a Britax Frontier, which he still technically fits in, but has NO room for his legs (they are off to either side of the seat). He is uncomfortable and does not enjoy his seat anymore.

My DS is 7.5 and weighs almost 60 lbs. I'm not sure how tall his is right off, but one of the taller ones in his 1st grade class.

I'm looking for a seat that is not as deep as his FR so he can have some leg room. We cannot move him due to my DD being on the other side of the car in her seat.

Any ideas what booster might work that will allow him to be seated with his legs comfortably?

Any help is greatly appreciated - I'm going crazy trying to find something that will work. We leave for our Summer Trips starting around 6 May. I ordered a Recaro Vivo a month ago to try and was told it would be 2-3 weeks. I called them today and was told to wait another 3-4 weeks! He is in a backless booster now, but I HATE seeing him in that! HELP!!

I have no experience with the car, so basically, I am bumping up the thread. What backless booster is he in?

I do believe it is an Evenflo AMP. It's red with a black seat. He doesn't seem to mind, but I don't like him being in that seat - I don't feel safe about it!

I'm not quite understanding what the problem with the frontier is. Are his legs so wide they go off the sides? Or are his legs too short to get his knee to the end of the seat? Or are his knees bending way past the seat? Does your ds need a wide, shallow seat, or a wide deep seat, or a thin, shallow seat?

I think there is not enough room between his car seat and the vehicle seat in front of him.

OP, would love to see a pic of the back seat with car seats.

I assume you have head rests in the back seat?

Yes, there is a head rest in the back seat.

I will try to get a picture in the morning - if the weather is nice and I don't get paged out to work (otherwise it might have to wait until the weekend)!

He has no room between the FR and the back of the front seat. His legs have to go on either side of the car seat in a most awkward manner.

You're talking about the depth of the seat, the part he sits on, front to back.

I just looked up the Frontier, it says it's got a seat depth of 13.5".

The Amp booster specs say it's a little over 15.5" deep.

And the Amp seems ok but the Frontier doesn't?

And, is he behind the driver? I know there's a car seat on the other side...but if your dd is behind the passenger can't you swap them? And then have the passenger side seat slightly more forward than the driver seat? (Assuming there is room for your dd's legs in her seat on the driver side.)

My guess is that the 13.5 is from the back of the Frontier's back to the edge of the seat, so although the Amp has a larger seat depth, it doesn't have the seatback of the carseat to contend with in addition to the seat depth.

OP, I think your best solution might end up being taking the car to a store and trying a few boosters, to see which works. Is that a possibility?

But the frontier would sit him farther forward, since there is a back on it.

Gotcha. I was assuming the measurement was the full depth but now I'm realizing it was probably 'seating' depth for the child not from the external back of the seat. That makes more sense.
