The BSC vs me....

I won!!!!! I think I could do anything now...

Friend was having a problem with the belt not staying locked in the back of a 78 Celica. I ended up putting her in my MA because she had outgrown the OHS scenera that her dad had her in. I barely had enough belt to get the loop back under the arms again. Thanks to Judi for reminding me that the belt has to go under the LATCH bars.

You go, girl! Those things are SUCH A PAIN, the only time I had to do one I found a strong ex-tech-man to do it with me :eek:

It really wasn't as scary as I thought it would be! I had one from my escort that had never been used. It had a piece of belt correctly threaded though it. I would un thread and thread it back though just playing with it every now and then. So I knew exactly how it had to be threaded. The hard part was not letting the belt go back in and trying to kneel in the MA in the back of a car clearly made for one of the 7 dwarfs! Throw on top of that that the seats are very mustang like in that they are contoured... AND leather.

It isn't a clear picture, but here is a pic. The clip isn't touching the bar. The gray you see behind it is the TT strap.

Really, you have Autumnlily an Whataboutpuppy to thank for catching the bar thing.

But you get kuddos because you invited us out, otherwise I would have been alone looking at that pic, going ummmm, something looks weird.

Oh BSCs are such a PITA. But . . . I'm glad you posted a pic :). The BSC should go on the side opposite the buckle. Since it's taking the place of the retractor, it goes where the retractor should be. Kind of different thinking there.

Yes, I was just going to say, nice effort, but...

I have only had to use a BSC once, in a pickup where the retractor wasn't working properly. It was an Evenflo bucket and actually was pretty easy to do, since there was no belt path in the way like on the convertibles.

I googled it before and found that it could be anywhere on the belt un like the locking clip as long as it didn't interfere with the position of the belt or pose a safety hazard. I believe the safety hazard was talking about using it with a seat such as a snug ride without the base where it would be in front of baby.

Alright table full of techs... ya remind me that it has to go under the bar, but not that he has to be on the side of the retractor? I could have at least found out the britax stuff online. Finding instructions on the BSC os like finding a needle in a haystack. The only site (which we constantly recommend...) stating ANYTHING tells me the wrong thing.

Guess I'll be doing some reinstalling friday.

It's in the US curriculum that it goes retractor side, but it's actually not functionally necessary for it to be positioned as such. It's not in the Canadian curriculum, for this reason. Regardless of where you position the BSC, the forces on the BSC are the same and the result (full extension of the belt, resulting in a "locked" retractor) is the same.

Guaranteed, the BSC has no idea where along the belt it has been positioned.

If you click on my screen name and look in my albums, I posted instructions with pics. As far as the positioning goes, it really doesn't matter where the BSC is along the belt. It does the same job, shortening the belt anywhere. I don't have time to dig up the discussion on the cpslistserve where it was discussed, but I'll get to it later.

I see no need to redo your install.

I saw that it was in the 'wrong' place, but didn't think it was a big deal, so didn't mention it. Sorry.

"Why all the consternation about using a BSC on one side of the buckle
or the other? Speaking as an "old timer" and one who has crash-tested
such clips, it makes no difference whatsoever which portion of the
webbing is shortened with a BSC, as long as it does the job intended.

And look at me, all out of rep and thanks. Awesome find!
