Built-in car seats with a t-shield?????????

I have never seen this before. It is an older model Dodge Caravan (same body style as my 2007).. Both built in seats have the T-shield with no chest clip.

My built-in seats have a 5-point harness...

I was just shocked to see this.

My 98 Grand Caravan had them. I was shocked when I saw someone's newer T&C with the 5 point. This was all before my "know better" era.

I want to see a picture! I've seen the 5 point harness, but never the t-shield. I had no idea they had those in cars.

I remember seeing the t-shield in a few dodges. To get the t-shield over the child you sort of had to pull it straight out (hip straps of course came with it) and then sort of down and buckle. it was similar to the FP retractable harness system.. you sort of pushed it back in to tighten it over the child. I can remember seeing a few babies in them... before age 1.. as soon as they outgrew the infant seat.

My friend thought they were dangerous and was shocked when she saw Seth riding in ours. LOL. They are not dangerous. I am 100% okay using them on occasion. ;)

I am curious as to what year her van is. I may ask her. I know she used the buit-in seats with her dd all the time.

I wouldn't use the t-shield seats, but I haev no issues using mine.

wait, cars actually come with built in carseats? I'm confused. This sounds dangerous.

I had them (5 point) and used them for the 3 year olds I nannied. I loved them! I could fold them back up after wards and go out with my friends after work. Another bonus, you'll have a better idea if they were involved in an accident as it would be reported with the car (theoretically ;) ) Too bad that van was rear ended 8 weeks after I bought it, hard enough to crack the interior panel to the driver's side door

I guess I think they're dangerous because if you buy a used car you never know what happened to it from the previous owner. Maybe they were in an accident and never told anyone. I guess I'd have to see one IRL to understand it.

I don't think I would use them if the car was used. We bought our van brand new though and a year after we got in the seatback with the built in seats was replaced. So I feel okay using mine.

How is that any different from any other safety system in a used vehicle? Maybe they've been in a serious accident and didn't have the seat belts replaced, maybe the air bags deployed and they went to a cheap mechanic who didn't have the skill to replace air bags so didn't bother to put air bags back in, maybe the owner had the air bags disabled at one point by an under the table mechanic and isn't telling the buyer.....

I guess that makes sense, but I'll still stick with ones I can install myself and aren't built in. For now anyway:thumbsup:
