When did the RA change height restrictions?

So I was flipping through the manual for an 07 RA and it doesn't stipulate a 1" minimum of shell for rf. In the manual for the 09 it does. Would anyone happen to know when this changed? Also, was it retroactive?

So I just called Britax and inquired about this and she said it was fine to follow the manual attached to my seat. I also asked if she knew why they changed the rf height limit from tops of ears to 1" of shell and she said that there may have been changes to the design of the seat. I still won't use the seat rf with ds's head above the shell but I might be a little less worried about checking it all the time.

Britax did not publish an advisory because there was no need to. If a child is rfing with their head above the back of the seat, they are at risk of hitting their heads. A ffing child is also at risk of head injury. According to Britaxes research regarding the RA, the shell of the seat is short enough that the risk of head injury was just about equal rfing with head exposed and ffing. Add into that, children in Sweden rf with their heads exposed and there has not been any evidence of more head injury than in countries where children of the same weight and size ff.

There was a lot of pressure on Britax to change their recommendations to match the 1 inch rule, so as not to encourage parents to leave children in infant seats once they no longer had head protection. They caved.

So, what would YOU do? As a parent, at what point would you discontinue use? Follow the manual that comes with your seat? Britax okayed it. Or go with the 1" rule?

I have a 2006 RA that I ADORE, but dd is quickly approaching the 1" mark. (In fact, she may have already reached it. :( ) Dh really prefers the RA and how easy it is to get in and out of his truck. DD isn't anywhere close to the 33# weight limit, so we're good there. I just haven't been able to bring myself to sell it. It is such a snap to install in our 3rd row and I can fit between it and dd1's Oobr.

I can't express how much I prefer this seat to our TF.

So, what would YOU do? As a parent

ME, if I had a choice between rfing with head above the seat in an RA and rfing with head below the seat in a different seat, I would rf in the other seat. Having head protection is ideal and worth the inconvenience of another seat.

If my only options were rfing with head above the seat in the RA or ffing in the RA, especially if I was putting it in a truck with inadequate head excursion room, I would rf with the head above the seat if the RA allowed it.
