Where I used to live I was a nanny and peope were actually pretty good about car seat safety for the most part. I don't think many people knew about ERF but kids were kept in boosters or car seats.
I live in Alaska now and it is terrible around here. People turn their babies foward facing way too early even before 1, kids are in seat belts way way too early like preschool age and so many people use expired seats or boosters too early. My dd goes to preschool in a good neighborhood and it makes me sick that how many people don't even use boosters for preschool age kids and these are people driving BMWs and other really nice vehicles who certainly can afford it. I see kids moving around in the back seat with no seatbelt at all more often than I should. We have one of the accidental death rates of young people and it is no wonder.
So I am wondering how awareness can be raised. I want this to be an area like where I used to live where people do make sure their kids are safe in the car. There is a huge painting in my pediatricians office with how big you need to be ride in a booster and to ride without one but it obviously has no effect at all.
The fire departments even give away seats or offer seats for like 15$ to families in need. It makes me so sad to see all the kids who might not fare well in accidents. I also like it to be normal for my own kids when they are older so they don't mind staying in their booster or car seats.
