GN good choice for air plane travel?

I'll be flying internationally with my 3.5 yr old DS and after doing lots of research, decided that it would be best to take a car seat on the plane for him. DH suggested buying a 2nd car seat and I did some more research and thought the GN would be the best choice, especially considering the price.

I'm looking for feedback from those of you who have used the GN 3-n-1 on a plane. According to the spec I found on line, the seat is 20" wide, but the seats on the plan according to SeatGuru are only 17" or 17.5".... ?

I also read another thread here today that said you can't use the seat tray with this car seat on the plane. I'm wondering if anyone as suggestions for a tray I could bring so that DS has something to color / play on...

Thanks!

The Evenflo Maestro may also be a good choice, and is lighter, and I believe a bit narrower (though not 100% on that.) :) How much does your son weigh? How tall is his torso? I know people have used Nautiluses on planes, you do need to raise the armrests. If you are flying an international carrier who may have armrests that don't move, you may want to call and find out if the armrests are moveable.

I know a few people here have trays they like, so hopefully one or two will come chime in on that issue for you. Remember that you want a soft and lightweight one, just in case it becomes a projectile, even on a plane.

Ummmm.... weight???? I haven't weighed him since his 3 yr check up in October. I think he was a little over 30 lbs then - so maybe 33-35 lbs now? He's about 38" tall, not sure about his torso length.

I checked out the reviews on the Maestro and I'm not sure that I like what I read and saw... I really need something that will work for the long term as well as for the flight. Maybe I'll look into taking the car seat we have for him now on the plane...

I am pretty sure that I'll be flying with Delta and will check on the arm rest issue again, but pretty sure they are moveable.
