New Monterey Booster or last year's Britax Frontier

So my 5 year old has finally outgrown his Britax Wizard. Between both boys we also have a Jane Indy Plus, Monterey Booster, and a Graco Nautilus. The GN is gest for him in terms of cup holder and function. Of the boosters teh Moneterey is great, I love it. So I'm down to either new old model Frontier for $209 or a new model Monterey for $115.

I really love the Monterey for my older son. The aluminum, the adjustability, the huge wings around the head and torso. I was totally sold on getting my younger son one of his own. Now I'm freaked out, scared to pull the trigger and have him sitting with just a seat belt and not a harness.

Any opinions?

Thanks,
Britt

Has he ridden in a booster before? How does he do?

FWIW, for my gang, I love the Monterey as a training seat because it's enclosed enough it's easy for them to stay in position. I don't think I'd buy a new harnessed seat for a child of that age, if he was booster ready and you're okay boostering him.

Can you use the GN as his primary seat and get him a Monterey as his secondary/backup?

Hi Carrie,

My son does great in his brother's Monterey. Like you noticed, I've noticed that the design seems to help them sit properly. In fact, I actually like the head and torso wings on the Monterey over the Frontier - they just seem sturdier and more safe. I just got all worked up about whether I should stick with harnessing or not. It's hard to put money over safety. But it's also hard to find clear data on which seat would be safer.

Hadn't quite decided which car to put it in yet. My husband's 2006 Honda Ridgeline or my 2002 Mazda MPV. We usually ride just around town in my van and not on the freeway but I have side airbags for the second row and my husband's truck doesn't.

Thanks,
Britt
